09 November 2018 — ThermiVa is a licensed radiofrequency treatment for vaginal dryness and vaginal laxity. It helps with the feeling of needing to pass urine too often, and leakage with coughing, sneezing or laughing, and it makes the vaginal skin more elastic, creating a tighter feeling during sex for ladies with previous vaginal deliveries. It increases blood flow around the clitoris and can make arousal quicker and orgasms more intense. ThermiVa can also can be used externally to plump up the labial tissues, producing a more youthful appearance.

Radiofrequency has been used for many years in the aesthetics industry to improve skin condition and reduce wrinkles. It works by regenerating skin collagen, improving skin blood flow, reducing sensitivity and improving sensation.

The treatment has been available in the USA for over 5 years, and in the UK for over 2 years. I was the first Doctor in the UK to offer the procedure, demand for which is growing at a rapid pace. It was initially introduced in the aesthetics industry, but the medical benefits include improvements in urinary function, effective treatment of painful sex after the menopause (due to thinning of the vaginal skin and vaginal dryness), and prevention of recurrent vaginal and urinary infections. It is not available on the NHS.
